Back in 2009 (can it really be that long ago?!), I wrote a blog called, “What are you giving up for Lent?” I won’t go into what I meant about Lent in the context of the Course, but you can read about it here, if you’d like: coa.wpstaging.site/what-are-you-giving-up-for-lent/
Janet reminded me of that blog today and asked me if––given that Lent starts tomorrow––I had given any thought to what I was going to give up for Lent this year. I replied that I hadn’t given it any thought, because I had totally forgotten it was upon us again.
That got me to thinking about what I want to give up (or let go of) at this point in my life and time. There seem to be many beliefs that I still use to limit and hold myself back. I have been spending some time working with my beliefs about myself, my life, and my place in God’s plan for salvation, so, as I sat quietly with this question in my mind, I came up with this:
I will to give up my resistance to:
- Committing fully to accepting my part in God’s plan, and
- Adopting a whole new mindset and way of seeing myself, my life, and my function here.
Then, as I asked Jesus what he wanted me to give up––given that he knew better than I what was needed!––what came instantly to mind was to “let go of my resistance to teaching from the fullness of my being.” That must have hit a responsive chord, since I immediately started to cry.
Please join me in reflecting on the beliefs that are limiting and holding you back at this point in your life. Most of all, ask what Jesus (or the Holy Spirit) wants you to give up for Lent this year and offer him your willingness to do so––not in the sense of sacrificing anything, but in the spirit of gaining your own freedom, your own resurrection.
With much love,
