And now we rise

Happy Easter! Today I’ll be in our Unity church choir, singing that song I wrote about in my post on “Finding my real voice.” The song is such a great Easter song that I thought you might enjoy the words:

And Now I Rise
by Richard Burdick

We have lived within the darkness, known the emptiness of night,
Felt the sting of bitter cold, the wounds of endless fights.
But now we’ve found there’s more within us than any power of this life,
For our spirits have found heaven and we’re reaching for the light.

[Chorus]

And now we rise, and now we live
Above the pain, beyond the fear.
For God has shown us to the light of the possible.
So now we see that we are free.
And now we soar, and now we fly.
There are no chains to tie us down.
We stand on higher ground.
For now we live, and now we grow,
For now we rise.

We have traveled to the bottom, the pit of our despair,
Found a strong and loving God, a force beyond compare.
And now we’re lifted so much higher than any power of the night.
We are caught up in God’s fire, and we’re living in God’s light.

There is nothing that has ever been, or will ever be,
That has any power over you, when you’re down on bended knee.
Turn your focus to the Spirit and away from worldly things.
And know the God that is within you gives your heart and soul their wings.

To conclude with the words of the Course: “We rise up strong in Christ, and let our weakness disappear, as we remember that His strength abides in us” (W-pI.153.19:3).
