impossible situation
The kind of situation into “which the ego always leads” (T-9.V.7:1), a situation that is so insane that it cannot work and cannot even be.
- The ego has led us into a situation that is so impossible that it cannot be real. How can we actually split with God (M-13.7:10-13)? How can it be true that “the perfect must now be perfected” (T-6.IV.8:5)? Yet we now believe that these impossible things are possible.
- The ego always leads us into situations that cannot work. It tells us to forgive others by overlooking the sin we have first made real, an obvious impossibility (see T-9.IV.4:1-5). It places us in a situation in which there are so many problems that we can never solve them all (see W-pI.79.5:1-3). We need to learn how to get out of this mess, but we are so handicapped that we find it impossible to learn the lessons that will actually get us out (see T-12.V.5:1-4). This is why the world is depressing, because the whole world is an impossible situation. Yet we can develop our abilities and follow our Guide to the point where we can actually get out.
