An Exercise in Accepting the Holy Instant

This exercise is comprised of a series of passages from the Course that are either injunctions, instructing you to enter the holy instant, or descriptions of the experience of the holy instant. With the instructions, attempt to do what they say. With the descriptions, let them carry you into the experience they speak of.

Stop for a moment now and think of this:

Is conflict what you want, or is God’s peace the better choice?
Which gives you more?
A tranquil mind is not a little gift.
Would you not rather live than choose to die? (M-20.4:6-9)

Then say: And so I choose this instant as the one to offer to the Holy Spirit,
that His blessing may descend on us, and keep us both in peace. (T-18.V.7)

Come to the holy instant and be healed. (T-27.V.6:1)

It is impossible to accept the holy instant without reservation unless, just for an instant,
you are willing to see no past or future….(T-18.VII.4:1)

To be born again is to let the past go, and look without condemnation upon the present. (T-13.VI.3:5)

Take this very instant, now, and think of it as all there is of time.

Think of it as all there is of time.

Nothing can reach you here out of the past,
and it is here that you are completely absolved,
completely free and wholly without condemnation. (T-15.I.9; repetition and italics mine)

Say: This holy instant would I give to You.
Be You in charge. For I would follow You,
Certain that Your direction gives me peace. (W-pII.361-365.Heading)

In the holy instant the power of the Holy Spirit will prevail,
because you joined Him. (T-16.VII.7:3)

You prepare your mind for [the holy instant] only to the extent
of recognizing that you want it above all else.

It is not necessary that you do more;
indeed, it is necessary that you realize that you cannot do more. (T-18.IV.1:1-5)

Give Him but what He asks,
that you may learn how little is your part, and how great is His.

It is this that makes the holy instant so easy and so natural. (T-18.IV.6:8-7:1)

You can claim the holy instant any time and anywhere you want it. (T-15.IV.4:4)

I call to you to make the holy instant yours at once,
for the release from littleness in the mind of the host of God depends on willingness,
and not on time. (T-15.IV.5:3)

Let us join together in making the holy instant all that there is,
by desiring that it be all that there is. (T-15.VIII.2:4)

The holy instant is this instant and every instant.

The one you want it to be it is. (T-15.IV.1:3-4)

The miracle of the holy instant lies in your willingness to let it be what it is.

And in your willingness for this lies also your acceptance of yourself as you were meant to be. (T-18.IV.2:8-9)

You could live forever in the holy instant, beginning now and reaching to eternity. (T-15.IV.6:3)

In the holy instant, you will see the smile of Heaven

shining on both you and your brother.

And you will shine upon him,
in glad acknowledgment of the grace that has been given you. (T-19.III.10:1-2)

Now is he born again to you, and you are born again to him,
without the past that sentenced him to die, and you with him.

Now is he free to live as you are free, because an ancient learning passed away,
and left a place for truth to be reborn. (T-31.I.13:3-5)

In the holy instant, you see in each relationship what it will be when you perceive only the present. (T-15.V.8:5)

In the holy instant, where the Great Rays replace the body in awareness,
the recognition of relationships without limits is given you. (T-15.IX.3:1)

In the holy instant, in which you see yourself as bright with freedom, you will remember God. (T-15.I.10:7)

But signify your will to remember Him and behold!

He will give you everything but for the asking. (T-10.II.3:7)

Asking for everything, you will receive it.

And your shining Self will lift the tiny aspect that you tried to hide from Heaven straight to Heaven. (T-18.VIII.11:5-6)

In the holy instant there are no bodies, and you experience only the attraction of God.

Accepting it as undivided you join Him wholly, in an instant,
for you would place no limits on your union with Him.

The reality of this relationship becomes the only truth that you could ever want.

All truth is here. (T-15.IX.7:3-6)
