10 Hallmarks of the Spiritually Advanced:

There is a universal desire that runs deep in all of us to become a better person, even an ideal person. Yet what exactly are we aiming for? We get many conflicting messages on this issue, and our own ideas may be vague and changeable. It would help us to have a clear vision to shoot for, one that ignites our motivation and inspires the very best in us.

That is exactly what A Course in Miracles offers. In a lengthy section in its third volume, the Manual for Teachers, the Course paints a portrait of a spiritually advanced person. It is a portrait of someone who is, quite simply, breathtakingly good. This portrait stands in stark contrast to the human beings we are accustomed to. And yet it is somehow familiar, perhaps because it mirrors that deep-seated longing in us to become truly good.

Join Robert Perry and Mary Buchowski as they walk you through each of the ten character traits identified in the Characteristics of God’s Teachers section of the Manual for Teachers volume of the Course. Whether you consider yourself a teacher or not, we hope you’ll join us to learn more about what it means to be spiritually advanced from a Course perspective.

About The Circle of Atonement

From our origin in 1993, the purpose of The Circle of Atonement has been to be a bridge into the profound and unparalleled wisdom of A Course in Miracles. We clarify the Course’s sometimes difficult language in order to make possible a deeper understanding of its teachings. We then help you put those teachings into practice, explaining how to apply them in your everyday life. Our work grows out of our commitment to be as faithful as possible to what A Course in Miracles says. It also grows out of our years of dedication to walking this path ourselves and our desire to see the Course’s purpose realized in the lives of students and in the world.

About your hosts

Robert Perry brings to A Course in Miracles many years of private study and public teaching. He began teaching at Miracle Distribution Center in 1986, and has since taught throughout North America and around the world. Robert is the founder of the Circle of Atonement and the author of numerous books and booklets based on the Course. Among these are the popular An Introduction to A Course in Miracles and Path of Light: Stepping into Peace with A Course in Miracles. He is also the lead editor of the Complete and Annotated Edition (CE) of A Course in Miracles, based on the original handwritten notes of Helen Schucman.

Mary Anne Buchowski is a long-time Circle teacher who has been associated with the Circle from its beginnings. She spent several years working for the Circle in Sedona, fulfilling administrative, programming, and teaching duties, while being trained as a teacher and mentored by Robert. In 2004, Mary Anne returned home to Ottawa, Canada and founded, with her husband James Gregory, Course Oasis, the Circle’s first satellite organization. Mary Anne is responsible for the Circle’s Teacher-of-Pupils Training Program and study group leader training and support. She works and teaches from her home base in Ottawa.

Emily Bennington is executive director of the Circle of Atonement where she is responsible for all aspects of advancing the mission. Her dedication to A Course in Miracles comes from the extraordinary changes in her own life as a result of applying its teachings. Prior to joining the Circle, Emily led training programs on spiritual intelligence and mindful leadership for numerous Fortune 500 companies. She is also the author of three books, including Miracles at Work: Turning Inner Guidance into Outer Influence, which features a foreword by her friend Marianne Williamson.
