The following is a series of Course passages instructing one to go beyond self-concepts to the truth of Who we really are. Please treat them as actual instructions and attempt to do what they say. Thus, when you read “put away your foolish self-images,” attempt to do just that. When you reach italicized lines, repeat them to yourself.
You are a mirror of truth, in which God Himself shines in perfect light.
To the ego’s dark glass you need but say,
“I will not look there because I know these images are not true.”
Then let the Holy One shine on you in peace, knowing that this and only this must be. (T-4.IV.9:1-3)
The world can teach no images of you unless you want to learn them.
There will come a time when images have all gone by, and you will see you know not what you are.
It is to this unsealed and open mind that truth returns, unhindered and unbound….
There is no statement that the world is more afraid to hear than this:
I do not know the thing I am,
and therefore do not know:
what I am doing,
where I am,
or how to look upon the world
or on myself.
Yet in this learning is salvation born. And What you are will tell you of Itself. (T-31.V.17)
Simply do this: Be still, and lay aside all thoughts of what you are…
all images you hold about yourself. (W-pI.189.7:1)
Try to reach past all your images and preconceptions about yourself to the truth in you. (W-pI.67.3:1)
Put away your foolish self-images,
and spend the rest of the practice period in trying to experience what God has given you,
in place of what you have decreed for yourself. (W-pI.93.8:4)
Lay all idols and self-images aside;
go past the list of attributes, both good and bad, you have ascribed to yourself;
and wait in silent expectancy for the truth.
God has Himself promised that it will be revealed to all who ask for it.
You are asking now.
You cannot fail because He cannot fail. (W-pI.94.4:1-4)
Now try to reach the Son of God in you.
This is the Self That never sinned, nor made an image to replace reality.
This is the Self That never left Its home in God to walk the world uncertainly.
This is the Self That knows no fear, nor could conceive of loss or suffering or death.(W-pI.94.3)
Let graven images you made to be the Son of God instead of what he is be worshipped not today.
Deep in your mind the holy Christ in you is waiting your acknowledgment as you. (W-pI.110.9:3-4)
Wait in silent expectancy for the truth. (W-pI.94.4:1)
