Ready for a Miracle

By Marie Lewis

Yesterday was a quiet day, perfect for setting an intention. I held myself ready:

Ready to love. Ready to listen. Ready to be used by the Holy Spirit. Ready to give a miracle. Ready to see with Christ’s vision. I was willing to be in that state of being of miracle-mindedness—open, willing, available. Throughout the morning, I kept checking in inwardly: Holy Spirit, I’m here. What would You have me do? What would You have me notice? But honestly, there was no one around. Nothing much to do. I remember thinking with a smile, Well, Holy Spirit… good luck with this day.

Then the phone rang. It was a bill collector. Not exactly what I pictured when I asked to be miracle-ready. But I heard Holy Spirit within: “Check in—Just stay with Me.” So I did. I paused. I turned inward and asked, “Holy Spirit, what would You have me say?”

The woman on the other end was direct, her tone very firm. She told me my payment hadn’t gone through. Normally, I would’ve reacted, gotten anxious, defensive, or felt ashamed. But because I was holding myself ready, I was so calm.

I listened. I was kind, and I told her I thought I had set up autopay, and I thanked her—sincerely—telling her that it was a blessing that she called and asked if she would be willing to help me figure it out. And then—her voice changed. She softened. Her tone became warm, even gentle. I could feel her shift. It was no longer just a transaction. It became a moment of connection. She walked me through the process step by step, and I thanked her again—from the heart. “Miracles are expressions of love.”

I could tell she didn’t expect that kind of gratitude. Maybe she rarely receives it. But something passed between us that felt real and holy. The call was a sacred exchange. We were two souls, connected in love.

When the call ended, I felt this quiet joy. Not because the bill was paid and my auto-pay was now set up, but because I had stayed aligned with love. I had let the Holy Spirit guide the moment. I just stepped back and let Him lead the way.

That phone call felt like the highlight of my day, and I didn’t realize why till later. I became aware that this was also a moment of deep shadow/subconscious work—healing old patterns of shame or resentment around money and authority. In the past, I might’ve projected frustration onto the caller or avoided the situation altogether. But this time, I stayed open as the Holy Spirit gently brought those old dark feelings into the light—not to punish or condemn, but to heal them.

I didn’t need to fix myself—I just needed to see it all with Him. And in that seeing, those feelings dissolved. That was the power of being miracle-ready, demonstrated to me in such a simple, unexpected way. By holding myself open to love—even during a phone call from a bill collector—I gave the Holy Spirit space to work through me and heal me.

Then five hours later, I received a call from a client who can’t pay, but whom I’ve continued to support, over the past year out of love. She shared that the attorney, preparing her due process case, had called her saying he needed a bill from me (which was for more than 200 hours of work) by Monday’s resolution meeting. It felt like a direct continuation of the morning’s miracle—a quiet confirmation that when I stay ready and aligned, the Holy Spirit takes care of the rest, often in ways I could never arrange myself.

From this experience, I had a shift in perception.

  • I stopped seeing “issues” as interruptions.
  • I started seeing everything as curriculum.
  • I remembered that miracles are natural—when they don’t occur, something has gone wrong.
  • I allowed myself to be a channel, not a controller, I was open to receive.
  • I let the Holy Spirit reframe the moment, and in doing so, He reframed my heart.

So today, I’m saying it again: I hold myself ready: Ready to love. Ready to listen. Ready to notice – Ready to give a miracle. In whatever form it may come. You just never know which moment will open into Grace.

The miracle, on the other hand, is an energizer. It always strengthens, and never depletes. It does induce peace, and by establishing tranquility (not relaxation) it enables both giver and receiver to enter into a state of grace. [CE T-1.48.16:2-4]
