Healing With ACIM

Ever since I was little I have struggled with addictions and mental health problems. Traditional therapy has been so limited in its effectiveness. It was only when my spiritual search finally led me to A Course in Miracles that changes started happening.

I have studied the Course for four years now, and in that time I have given up closet smoking, alcohol, chronic anxiety and a bipolar diagnosis. The next issue to loosen its grip on me is an unhealthy relationship with food. As far as symptoms of an unhealed mind, my process from what I’ve learned in the Course goes something like this: Why do I overeat? Deep down I like being a victim. Look what my past has done to me. I am a compulsive overeater. It’s who I am. Looking at this answer, I am learning that the ego likes sameness. It’s familiar and comfortable and it knows the blame game very well.

The good news is that now I know better. I am a holy Son of God. I am not a victim. I can hear that dirge so clearly now. I never heard it before. Now I do, and there is nothing for me to do other than drop this act. It’s a block in my way. I wonder what is on the other side of it. I am so excited to find out. I am filled with anticipation. It is no longer a sacrifice to give this behavior up. If I don’t drop this act of victimhood, I won’t know what God has in store on the other side of it. I’m so ready.

Having said all that, I am still new to this way of being. I need my tools. The biggest one is to forgive every time there is any hint of a grievance. I need to forgive and ask for God’s help in seeing it differently. When I do this, He always sends help; it never fails. I can even place my next meal in the hands of God. That I learned today in study group. Being part of this community has shown me so effectively how to live the Course. I am learning from everyone here so thank you to all of you. I am so incredibly grateful.
